The Focus Forum: “The Evolution of Protest Movements in Modern Ukraine: Empires, Wars, Identity”

The history of Ukraine is marked by a long and complex struggle for national identity, sovereignty, independence, and democratic values. The Ukrainian lands located on the frontier between the West and Russia used to be part of the Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian, and Russian empires. However, being at the crossroads of different civilizations and cultures, Ukrainians have managed to preserve their cultural identity, territory, historical memory, language, and national consciousness.

On November 21, 2023, Ukraine will celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Revolution of Dignity. This event not only marked the beginning of radical changes within our country but also became the first transformation stage of the world order and security environment.

The discussion will facilitate expert exchange on challenges for citizenship education at museums in different countries across Europe, encourage museum educators to define priorities for international cooperation in order to face joint challenges in Europe and agree on possible further steps and partnerships.

The webinar will be held in English and Ukrainian with simultaneous translation.
